If your hearing loss is a result of workplace noise exposure or accident, you may be eligible for hearing aids fully funded by ACC.

Find out more about the claims process or drop into your nearest clinic to check your eligibility.

Can I get free hearing aids from ACC?

There are several qualification criteria that could make you eligible to receive fully-funded hearing aids from ACC - if your hearing loss is due to an accident or workplace noise exposure. Your age, health or genetic conditions can also affect your funding. Generally, ACC will consider these and the cause of your hearing loss before providing financial assistance.

If you are not eligible for hearing aids fully funded by the ACC, The Ministry of Health may be able to provide funding or subsidy assistance for hearing devices.

What ACC coverage can I get?

ACC can contribute to the complete or partial cost, maintenance and repairing of hearing aids, earwax removal, and replacement hearing aids batteries if you meet the eligibility criteria.

Hearing aid funding by ACC is provided where 6% or more of your hearing loss is caused by an injury, this can include:

  • Hearing injury or hearing loss caused by an accident
  • Hearing loss caused by some medical treatments

  • Gradual onset hearing as a result of workplace noise

Depending on your case and the extent of your hearing loss, ACC is able to provide different levels of funding. Several levels of ACC-funded hearing services exist, and our team will help you find the one that best suits your hearing needs.

bloom™ hearing specialists have a large range of hearing aids that are fully-funded by the ACC. Speak to one of our friendly team to see what you may be eligible for.

3 Simple Steps To ACC-Funded Hearing Aids

The claims process can seem complicated but we're here to help guide you each step of the way. Your bloom™ Hearing Expert will make it easy to check your eligibility and guide you through the the claims process.

You do not need to visit your GP to start the hearing aids claim.

Step 1

The first step is to assess your current level of hearing loss.

You'll listen to a number of tones to identify the type and extent of your hearing loss.

Your bloom™ hearing specialist will also advise on your options relating to the Noise Induced Loss claim. They will also complete the paperwork and submit it for you.

To start, call us on 0800 522 422 or book your free appointment here.

Step 2

After your hearing check, you'll see an Ear, Nose & Throat specialist (ENT) - ACC will let you know which ENT they've referred to.

Your bloom™ hearing "hearing check results" are sent by ACC to the ENT before your appointment.

At the ENT appointment, your employment, hearing health & family history will be discussed to help diagnose the hearing loss and communicate it to ACC.

Often this appointment happens over the phone.

Step 3

If your eligibility qualifies you for funding, ACC will get in touch with a confirmation.

Once confirmed, pop into one of our clinics or give us a call to make an appointment.

Your bloom™ hearing specialist will take you through different options of hearing aids that will best suit your needs and another appointment will be made to fit your new hearing aids.

What can I do if I'm not eligible for ACC-funded hearing aids?

If you do not meet ACC's criteria for fully-funded hearing aids, you may still get help through other subsidies and funding for hearing aids.
