What to expect, including ACC Claims Process, Ministry of Health Hearing Aid Subsidy, War Pension Funding, Work and Income (WINZ) support and Ezidebit

ACC Claims Process, Your Checklist

The ACC provides funding for hearing aids and hearing loss treatment to eligible New Zealanders if hearing loss is a result of any of the following:

  • Exposure to noise in a work environment or sudden extremely loud noise 
  • Hearing loss associated with an accident
  • Hearing loss associated with medical treatment

The process for ACC is stepped out below:

  1. Full hearing assessment or hearing screen completed.
    1. At a hearing consultation we will discuss and confirm the ACC eligibility with you.
    2. We will help you fill out and submit the required paperwork
  2. ACC may enquire if you would like to have your hearing loss investigated further by an ENT.
    1. ACC will assess your claim and provide you with the outcome.
    2. We will provide ongoing calls to support you through the claim process.
  3. You will receive a letter from ACC confirming the outcome of your claim. If accepted, please contact us to arrange an appointment to discuss hearing aids. If declined, please contact us so we can advise next steps.

Ministry of Health Hearing Aid Subsidy

All New Zealand residents that are over the age of 18 years old are eligible for a hearing aid subsidy of $1,022.22 for two hearing aids or $511.11 for a single hearing aid. The subsidy is a contribution towards the costs of new hearing aids and is available every 6 years thereafter. Your bloom hearing specialist will be able to advise you on eligibility.

War Pension Funding

Hearing aids and other hearing assistive listening devices such as amplified telephones are available to veterans who have a hearing disability as a result of their military service.

The war pension funding covers:

  • Cost of hearing aid(s) – limit applies
  • Audiologist appointments costs
  • Repair of devices
  • Battery allowance
  • Replacement of hearing aids after 5 years

Work and Income (WINZ) support

A WINZ loan may be available to New Zealand residents to contribute towards the purchase of hearing aids. In order to establish an individual’s eligibility to meet this criteria WINZ requires a letter and quote from your Hearing Specialist.
